New Captain's Opening Statement 2006

Following our AGM in January I still find it hard to believe I am now the captain of arguably the oldest club in Yorkshire.

I am very proud and honoured to be your Club Captain and I will endeavour to maintain the strong traditions of the club.

I’m really looking forward to the start of the golfing season and my diary continues to grow with many invitations to events. The Captain’s Challenge matches are going well. This is an opportunity for club members to take on the Captain and the Professional and although all dates have been filled should anyone who was unable to get one of those dates wish to play they should contact me and an alternative may be sought.

Carl Johnson - Our new Club Captain for 2006

One event I must mention is the Captain’s Charity AM-AM The event will take place on Thursday 17th August and is intended to support my two chosen chari.ties - the ‘Daisy Appeal’, a local charity raising money for a new Medical Research Centre in Cottingham, and ‘Candlelighters’, a Leeds-based charity which raises funds to fight children’s cancer. Would anyone interested in playing in the AM-AM please register with our secretary.

We have a number of social events lined up this year. Posters will be displayed in the club, but members should also watch out for forthcoming events in the club newsletter.

Our annual Dinner Dance with live music will be held in October at the Willerby Manor Hotel and I look forward to the support of the members. More details on this will be available later.

As I said, it is a great privilege to be Club Captain and I and my wife, Chris, are looking forward to golfing and socialising with members and their friends in what has to be one of the friendliest clubs in the area.
